Installing the V-DAQ Power Adaptor
This article explains how to install the V-DAQ Power Adaptor and connect it to your vehicle's fuse box.
Overview
This article explains how to install the V-DAQ Power Adaptor by connecting it to your vehicle's fuse box using the appropriate fuse blade kit. Following these steps will ensure the Power Adaptor receives both constant power and ignition power before connecting your V-DAQ TAG.
Before You Begin
Before installing the V-DAQ Power Adaptor, ensure you have:
- Identified the location of your vehicle's fuse box.
- Determined how to access the fuse box.
- Confirmed the correct fuse tap (blade fuse) type for your vehicle.
- A voltage meter or multimeter to identify power sources.
- The correct V-DAQ Blade Fuse Kit.
Important
Incorrect installation may result in damage, malfunction or reduced performance of the product.
If you are unsure about any part of the installation process, V-DAQ recommends consulting a qualified technician.
Step 1 – Identify the Correct Fuse Blade Kit
Select the blade fuse type that matches your vehicle's fuse box.
Supported fuse types include:
Step 2 – Locate the Required Fuse Box Connections
Using a voltage meter, identify the following points in the vehicle fuse box:
- Constant Power (12–24V)
- Ignition Power (12–24V)
- Ground
Important: Do not cut any vehicle wiring. The Power Adaptor is designed to connect using fuse taps.
Step 3 – Move Existing Fuses (If Required)
If the selected fuse position already contains a fuse:
- Remove the existing fuse.
- Insert it into the fuse tap supplied with the Power Adaptor.
This preserves the original vehicle circuit while allowing the Power Adaptor to be connected.
Step 4 – Connect the Blade Fuse Kit
Insert the blade fuse connectors into the identified fuse box locations.
Ensure:
- Constant Power is connected correctly.
- Ignition Power is connected correctly.
- Fuse polarity has been checked before installation. Ensure the wire runs from the opposite side of the live fuse terminal
Important: Always verify fuse polarity before connecting.
Step 5 – Connect the USB-C Cable
Align the USB-C connector with the INPUT port on the V-DAQ Power Adaptor.
Push the connector in until it clicks securely into place.
Do not force the connector. If resistance is felt, check the connector orientation before inserting.
Step 6 – Verify the INPUT Indicator
After connecting power:
- Check that the INPUT LED illuminates green.
- A green INPUT light confirms the Power Adaptor is receiving power correctly.
Once the green INPUT light is displayed, proceed with installation of the V-DAQ TAG.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Possible Cause | Resolution |
|---|---|---|
| INPUT light does not turn on | No power supplied | Check Constant Power, Ignition and Ground connections. |
| INPUT light remains off | Incorrect fuse polarity | Verify fuse orientation and reconnect. |
| USB-C connector will not insert | Incorrect orientation | Realign the connector. Do not force it. |
| Vehicle circuit no longer works | Original fuse not transferred | Ensure the original fuse has been installed into the fuse tap. |
| Power Adaptor not powering the TAG | Incorrect fuse locations selected | Confirm Constant Power and Ignition circuits using a voltage meter. |
| Error light is on | TAG not connected | The error light may turn on if the V-DAQ TAG is not connected. This can be ignored once the TAG is connected correctly. |
