What Makes A Successful Wireless OBM Installation?
Learn the installation principles that support reliable connectivity, accurate weight visibility, and long-term Wireless OBM performance.
A successful Wireless OBM installation is about more than simply fitting equipment. The quality of the installation directly impacts connectivity, weight visibility, system reliability, and the overall user experience.
By following approved installation practices, installers can help ensure drivers, fleet managers, and compliance teams receive accurate and reliable weight information from day one.
| Important: V-DAQ is not responsible for the installation of Right Weigh gauges or V-DAQ TAGs. Adhering to the recommended installation guidelines helps ensure optimal system performance, reliable connectivity, and fewer operational issues over the life of the installation. |
The Four Foundations of a Successful Installation
Successful Wireless OBM deployments are built on four key foundations:
1.Correct Right Weigh Gauge Placement
Right Weigh gauges provide the weight data that powers Wireless OBM. Their installation plays a critical role in overall system performance.
For best results:
- Position gauges as far forward as practical
- Install gauges toward the outside of the vehicle where possible
- Mount gauges on the driver's side where practical
- Follow all Right Weigh installation requirements
Avoid mounting gauges:
- Behind toolboxes
- Inside metal enclosures
- Behind structural steel members
- In locations that may obstruct Bluetooth communication
Large metal objects can significantly reduce communication performance and impact the reliability of weight visibility.
2. Reliable Power Configuration
Wireless OBM relies on gauges remaining powered and available for communication. Right Weigh gauges should be connected to:
- Ignition circuits, or
- Approved accessory circuits
Do not use lighting circuits as the primary power source. Incorrect power configuration can result in:
- Gauges not appearing in the app
- Intermittent connectivity
- Missing weight information
- Unreliable system performance
3. Optimised V-DAQ TAG Placement
The V-DAQ TAG acts as the communication bridge between the vehicle and the Wireless OBM platform. To maximise communication performance:
- Mount the TAG on the windscreen in accordance with approved installation procedures
- Install the TAG on the same side of the vehicle as the gauges
- Maintain the clearest communication path possible between the TAG and installed gauges
- Consider the entire vehicle combination when selecting a mounting location
This is particularly important for:
- A-Doubles
- B-Doubles
- B-Triples
- Road Trains
Avoid locations that:
- Restrict communication
- Create unnecessary signal obstruction
- Reduce connectivity performance
4. Complete Installation Validation
Every installation should be validated before being handed over to operational users. Validation confirms:
- Equipment is installed correctly
- Connectivity is functioning as expected
- Weight information is visible
- Trailer pairing is operating correctly
- Users can successfully access the system
Installation Success Checklist
Before completing an installation, confirm:
-
Right Weigh gauges are installed correctly
-
Power configuration has been verified
-
V-DAQ TAG placement follows installation guidelines
-
Connectivity is stable
-
Live weights are visible
-
Trailer pairing is operating correctly
-
The installation has been validated
Reliable weight visibility starts with a quality installation. Correct gauge placement, reliable power, optimised TAG positioning, and thorough validation all contribute to a successful Wireless OBM deployment. By following approved installation guidelines, installers can help ensure users receive accurate, reliable, and consistent weight information from day one.
